Back2Raw is a company specializing in handcrafted raw whole dog. All our recipes are complete and balances using various animal organs, high quality muscle meat proper bone content and ideal protein to fat ratios.
It is important to us that your dog get balance from their food, and using a high concentration of liver would not allow us to balance out your dogs needs with other organs.
Many dogs show sensitivities to large amounts of liver in their diet such as lose stool or upset stomachs. By using 2.5% we are keeping our food easier on the digestive system well still providing the optimal nutrients from liver.
Please refer to our Feeding Guide page to calculate how much raw your dog will need based on weight. For a more advanced calculation of the amount of food your dog will need and the best recipe for them please email back2raw.ca@Gmail.com with your dogs current weight, age, activity level, breed and if they are currently at a healthy weight.
Raw food is what canines ate for thousands of years prior to domestication. Our name reflects the movement to restore the diet our canine ancestors once thrived upon. Even today, many dogs when loose, will hunt, kill and eat small animals and rabbits. Their digestive systems is designed to process the whole animal, fur, skin ,bones, etc. on the contrary, many kibble nutrients come from the manufacturer adding vitamins and minerals, whereas whole foods offer much more digestible nutrients, and a far more comprehensive complex of vitamins, trace elements, enzymes and other nutritional factors that cannot be found in highly processed, high-heated dry dog food. Importantly majority of kibble brands are loaded with fillers and grains. But most dogs cannot digest corn, wheat and other grains very well - which means the nutrients are not being absorbed and utilized. There is research that suggest such poor nutrients are the cause of allergic reactions such as sin, eyes, ear problems and many more.
To achieve the full benefits of a raw diet we do discourage against the mixture of raw and kibble. These foods are digested at a different rate and require different digestive enzymes to be processed properly.
We highly recommended rotating through all the proteins on a weekly or biweekly basis as all of our proteins have different benefits for your dog. By rotating proteins you can reduce the chance of your dog developing an allergy to a specific protein while also keeping your dog's interest and taste in mind. This also mimics the way canine ancestors would find different animals to eat in the wild. We recommend starting with a more familiar protein source such as chicken. Of course it makes sense to eliminate any proteins your dog doesn’t favour or has allergies too.
Quality raw food from suppliers like Back 2 Raw have the same risk factors as the fresh chicken you buy at the grocery store. If you already practice proper food sanitation in your home during your own food preparations then raw food would follow the same guidelines, making it safe to handle and serve to your furry friend.
For proper raw meat handling always use soap and hot water to sanitize any utensils, counters and your hands after handling. We highly recommend washing your dog’s feeding bowl daily and letting it air dry.
Our raw food comes frozen and should be kept frozen solid, only thaw daily portions in your fridge up to 48 hours prior to feeding.
The short answer is that our main ingredient is actual meat, off the bone protein, not highly processed scraps or by-products. Surprisingly one major kibble recently made headlines for its use of chicken feathers as their only protein source.
Kibbles contain scientifically formulated chemicals along with fillers or binders.
In addition to quality whole protein sources, we add fresh vegetables, fruits, ground bones and oils to create a balanced & nutrient rich delicious meals.
While not a cheap form of food, the incredible benefits derived from a raw food diet is a value unmatched by any other food type.
